Drew Barrymore is a twit. Sorry, but it's official. She received a Dove of Peace as a new member of "Artists for the U.N.", and she will most likely be showing it off proudly at the Academy Awards. I never planned on watching the Academy Awards anyway, but now I won't be going to see her in 50 First Dates next weekend as I had planned.

I've been thinking about it a lot ever since the start of the war in Iraq, and today I finally have my answer. It bothers me when actors and singers that I like become liberal activists. And for awhile, I wondered if that was really fair of me. After all, I have my political opinions, and I often share them. Why shouldn't they be able to do the same?

Well, they can. They can say whatever they want. But they are in a unique position, because they are entertainers. If they tick people off, they're going to stop listening to their music and watching their movies. And that's not censorship -- that's the way it is. Entertainment is all about being entertained. It's an escape, and people want to forget everything and be somewhere else for awhile. And so if I'm watching a movie with -- let's say Barbra Streisand in it (not like I would) -- I want to be able to forget that she's BS (not like I could) and believe that she is Yentil or whatever. But how can I do that in light of all the inane things she's said over the years?

So anyway, I can say what I want on here, and if people don't like it they can leave rude comments or just not bother coming back. My livelihood does not depend on this -- it's a hobby. I have nothing to lose, really. I could get my feelings hurt, but it's not going to affect my (empty) bank account.
