My satellite connection was down this morning, so I have been playing around with some HTML in Notepad -- nothing that really accomplished anything. I've also been watching Mr. Bean today on Windows Media Player in skin mode so that I can do other things too.
I don't really have anything profound to say at the moment, I'm just posting to post. That is just sad.
OK, I have a topic. People in our church are actually praying for an organist transplant. I don't know this for sure of course -- I only know from my observations, the opinions of my family, and from those who have talked to Scott.
It all started when Scott started learning to play the organ, which until that point had just sat there for many years because no one knew how to play it. Since almost every job in my church is voluntary, this woman was never hired to play the organ. No one with ears would have ever done that. She was one of three pianists asked to play the piano. And she plays the piano OK -- I'll give her that. But once Scott started playing the organ, she decided that she can play the organ too. And she plays it so much like what you would hear at a carnival or a baseball game, only with lots of mistakes on top of that. I want to stand up and yell, "Play ball!" after every hymn. I almost have to leave the room to keep from laughing. And the poor chorister. I know her well, and she is a serious perfectionist. I have no idea how she keeps a straight face. It must seriously grate on her nerves.
So it's ridiculous -- a whole roomful of people trying to sing hymns to horrible organ music, and pretend not to notice. It's really funny when you think about it. No one has the heart or the the courage to tell her she is awful -- yet. Although it's her turn again tomorrow, and the people are getting restless.
