Even though I've been involved

Even though I've been involved in Blogs for Bush, I have procrastinated joining Wictory Wednesday for awhile because I'm incredibly inconsistent by nature. However, I do support our president, so I'm going to do this because there is always a chance that even my feeble contribution could help his campaign. I don't want to continue to take the attitude that I'm unqualified to write about politics. After all, I'm a voter. That should be the only qualification I need. I'm beginning to see the real value of blogging, as it truly puts the power of the "printing press" in the hands of the everyday person. I'm not particularly comfortable writing my political thoughts, and even less excited about debating them with people. Maybe it's a lack of confidence -- not in my ideals but in my writing/debating skills. Plus there are so many people out there writing similar views to mine already -- I can't even begin to read it all.

So my profound political thought for Wictory Wednesday -- hmmmm... Well, I know what I'll talk about. I'm reading Anna Karenina right now, and one of the many lessons in the book is that big city life changes people in ways that are negative. I'm not criticizing those out there living in big cities who have managed to cling to their conservative views. But you are in the minority. If you were alive and had any access to a TV or internet, you remember the election results maps that showed the Bush/Gore (red/blue) states. Did you look at the county results maps too? Did you notice that the results by counties were mostly Bush wins? This was understood by the founding fathers who wanted to keep a balance between "city values" and the values of more rural areas, which is one reason why there are so many built-in checks and balances in the way that we elect our president. If we had had a direct election, Al Gore (shudder) would be our president. But direct election would have given those living in high population areas more power than those in rural areas, and those in rural areas would have been "disenfranchised". Candidates would have no reason to even care about us in "flyover country" and the rural areas would be under-represented. Is it any wonder at all that Hitlery -- I mean Hillary -- back in November 2000 proposed a constitutional amendment for dumping the Electoral College in favor of direct election? Anyway, I was somewhat scarred by the whole 2000 election controversy and the fear that we were going to be stuck with 4 years of Gore. Thankfully, it all worked out. ~~whew!~~ I can't even imagine a post 9-11 with Al Gore in charge.

So while none of this is breaking news, it is my contribution to why I support Bush. He is not a liberal. ;) If you would like to volunteer and/or donate to the Bush campaign, please do. Get involved. Even *I* am trying to do my part, LOL. Here is where you click to find out more about Wictory Wednesday if you're interested in joining.
