Since our anniversary is this month, I thought maybe I'd go with a "how we ended up together for the last 16 years" theme for some of January's posts. I won't be able to tell the story all at once, as it's a fairly long story.
But I actually met Scott at the beginning of the school year in 1982 when I was a sophomore and he was a senior. It was years later that I realized we had met at the "Back to School Dance." He had gone to the dance with a girl that was in my grade. I didn't know he was in high school. He just seemed older, so I thought he had already graduated. Anyway, I met him again a couple of weeks later in art class when I got transferred into the Fine Arts class. I was originally scheduled to be in the beginner class, but the teacher thought I drew well enough to be in the more advanced class. Scott had also been put into that class without taking the prerequisite art class.
The first or second day of the class we were drawing a pair of our old shoes. Scott was drawing a pair of old boots and I went up to him and complimented him on his drawing. I don't know why -- I was pretty shy (at least back then). I just felt a magnetic attraction toward him. It wasn't long before he ended up sitting right behind me. It was a very relaxed classroom, so we had plenty of opportunities to talk. I remember we had this one assignment to draw the person sitting next to us, which meant we were paired up to draw each other. We had to do a sketch of the person's different facial features and hand. I think that was probably when we started to have feelings for each other. I mean to spend a few hours staring at another person is to get pretty well-aquainted with them. We became friends, and would talk to each other a lot.
So the face parts are of Scott. I found the drawing recently in my mom's attic. I only got an 88% on the project, but I think I found an A+ guy.
Next time I'll talk about our first date and post some pics. :)
