Cock-a-doodle-who?

a small cock
a small cock

I just recieved an email calling me by name and suggesting that I need a bigger rooster. But I don't even have one -- just this picture I drew. I don't ever plan on getting one because I don't need one. I didn't feel the need to read any further.

P.S. Three more rooster offers since yesterday.

Flaky Ketchup Time, Peeps

I'm flaky. Okay, not about the big stuff, but I don't think I follow through on half of the stuff I say I'm going to do on this blog. I know it's my blog and all, but I hate how certain I can be about stuff, and then how I lose interest later. It's embarrassing. Like I still have peeps up, and Easter was more than 2 weeks ago.

So I think I will try to play catch-up this week and see if I can follow through on some of the things I said I would do in the past. Who knows, I may even re-decorate a little -- don't hold your breath.

I never told you that I tried Peeps. They're not that great right out of the package, but hear me out on this. I had a hard time finding any purple ones right before Easter, but I did manage to snag 2 packs of them. I also got other colors. And they taste pretty much the same, except that I think the yellow ones taste better psychologically. I tried them frozen -- too crunchy for me. The ones I liked best were the ones that I left unwrapped for a few days. It may sound kind of gross, but the stale ones are the best. I didn't try them roasted yet. I don't know if I really want to that bad. But I have become a "purple peep-eater". I haven't decided if I'm going to take pictures of peeps or not. I had an idea to do a story with them, but when it comes right down to it, I'm too lazy. I do have some peeps left, but their numbers are dwindling. Soon I will be out of potential cast members, and then we'll have to wait until next year. ;)

Wictory Wednesday

I think I completely forgot about doing this last week. My daughter and grandson completely threw the election out of my mind. But I'm back. I don't have a picture this week, but you can scroll down and look at my adorable grandson. That's much better than anything I could do to Kerry's face this week.

I hope and pray that George W. Bush is re-elected. I think he has done a great job. I want this country to be free and safe for my grandson. I think Bush will do a much better job, as he doesn't want to pass the buck to the United Nations to let them deal with terrorists and dictators. I think we already know how they handle things.

That is why I'm a member of Blogs for Bush and Wictory Wednesday. I want to play a part in his re-election campaign, however small a part it may be. If you would like to volunteer and/or donate to the Bush campaign, please do. Get involved. Here is where you click to find out more about Wictory Wednesday if you're interested in joining. Cousins in combat

J.R. and Andrew
This is totally cool! My husband was at his mom's house last night. She had received a picture of his 3rd cousin J.R. who is in Iraq with 1st BN 151 CAV. Guess who's right in front him? My cousin Andrew! Scott thought it looked like Andrew, and zoomed in on the name tag -- and it is him -- they're in the same troop! It's a small world. Anyway, I don't know J.R. very well, but I love my cousin Andrew. He has worked as a sheriff's deputy, but he's always wanted to be in the military. He's in the National Guard now. Even though I'm worried about him, I know that he's over there doing what he's always wanted to do. And I'm really proud of him. :) He represents to me all those who are out there serving our country. I'm proud of all of them and grateful to them for all they do and sacrifice.

Name that blogger

I thought this was pretty cool, although it looks like there's probably a lot of people with my name. I mean, I even know one personally -- a cousin by marriage. I know there must be at least one more in my county, as I tried to check out books once and was told I had books that were 7 years overdue. Boy did I have fun with that until I was able to convince them it wasn't me. :P Really, it wasn't me! Shut up.

Rules

000_0071.jpg

  1. NOBODY calls me grandma except the baby. Remember, I'm still in my 30's. I'm NOT making that up.

  2. Never forget Rule #1

I got to go see Cassandra and baby last night. They're already home, and Cassandra was getting around fine -- much better than I ever did after having a baby, especially my first one.

A River Runs Through It
And on a completely different note, I'm sick of rain now. We have a ROARING RIVER running through our yard that I can see from here. Thankfully, we are on top of a very big hill (actually called a mountain in Arkansas), so we are not going to get flooded out.

I'm a WHAT?

What a precious baby boy! Cassandra had her labor induced at about 8 am, and Jordan was born at 2:51 pm. Mother and baby are fine, and grandma is tired. ;)

Here is a picture of the kid with a nose just like mine. I'll spare you from the conehead pictures. His little head will be back to normal tomorrow. ;) A storm is coming, so I'd better post this quick...

Ready or Not

NOT. But it doesn't really matter if I am or not. Cassandra will be induced if she doesn't have the baby by Thursday morning. She has been having relatively mild but steady contractions since Sunday night when we went to the hospital. They kept her for a couple of hours, but then gave her a shot of morphine and sent her home. She went in for her last scheduled checkup today. She is still only dilated to a 1. She was so miserable that the doctor offered to induce labor Thursday morning. I think that's a good idea. Lucky for her she's not dealing with military doctors. I went 15 days overdue with Christopher before they would induce labor.

Oh yeah, and my son-in-law proves to me on a near-daily basis that he is an immature jerk. He and my 12-year-old son have a lot in common. I wish I were exaggerating.

Maybe I should rename my blog. I think I need "Whine" in the title lately. Sorry peeps -- I'm sure the happy blogging and reading of blogs will resume shortly. I think I'm going to go escape to Hogwarts for awhile.

Life is a picnic

phoebe_thumb.gif
Things are about the same around here, but I guess I'm getting used to the stress and worry, etc. It's mostly additional parenting woes -- when it rains it pours. And then in addition, my grandchild is due in less than a week.

My SIL is coming into town for the afternoon. She's bringing my cute nieces, including the one with the bowl on her head. I'm sure the bowl is optional. After church today we're going to go over to the park for a picnic. My mom and dad are coming to meet us, as well as Cassandra and Mark. And since we are Brother Steven's ride, I guess he's coming too. Unfortunately, the weather has decided to be overcast and windy. It isn't supposed to rain. We'll see.

Wictory Wednesday

President and First Lady Bush
Click to get the big picture

I thought I would take a break from my usual Kerry pic to put up this picture we received from President and Laura Bush. My husband keeps it over by his desk, and it means a lot to him. I love the picture, too. George W. and Laura are real people -- nothing fake about these two, IMO.

Did you see President Bush's press conference last night? I really thought he did a wonderful job. I think that he is the best thing that's happened to this country since Ronald Reagan. I'm so glad and so grateful to God that he is in office right now. And I hope and pray that he is re-elected.

Roach balls

Don't be afraid -- my roaches don't have these, although I think the ones we saw in Hawaii may have. I'm talking about a recipe for homemade pest control stuff. I didn't name it, BTW. We've lived here for 6 years and had no problems, but I've seen a couple now. I think it's all the rain. I remembered having made these a long time ago, but I couldn't remember the recipe. I got online and finally found a similar recipe. I found several that had borax in them but I wanted something that was safe for pets in case they got into it.

Anyway, if you like to try DIY projects, here is the recipe:

1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup shortening or bacon drippings
1/2 cup minced onions
1/2 cup flour
8 oz. baking soda

Make a dough by combining. Add enough water to make a dough-like consistency. Make balls of bait and put them wherever you see roaches.

I actually cut the recipe in half. Unless you have a huge house or want to make them for friends and relatives, half should be more than enough.

Advanced parenting

Christopher
I'm still not feeling bloggy yet, but I'm going to write anyway.

Things got worse yesterday and last night -- not really stuff I should share. Let's just say it's a problem with one of my kids (not this kid, I just thought Christopher made a good emoticon for my feelings). You can teach them and think you're doing a good job, but every once in a while, cold reality hits you in the face when you find out they're up to something you didn't know about. Why am I the one who feels so bad? I didn't do anything wrong, yet I feel like I should have known sooner or prevented this problem. I think being a parent must give you a PHD in Guilt.

It stinks sometimes

I didn't feel bloggy yesterday, so I didn't post. I did make a couple of attempts at entries, but then I had some connection problems.... and yada, yada, yada.

I spent most of my day yesterday playing Neopets. Yes, that was an excellent use of my time.

We got a call in the middle of the night (Easter morning) from a sheriff's deputy. He was calling to say he saw Obi in the same area we lost him, but he wasn't able to catch him.

I have made a resolution. Remind me next Easter NOT to dye Easter eggs to take to my MIL's. We had lunch, etc., and just as I was getting everything and everyone together to leave, she remembered that Christopher (C) and my nephew hadn't hunted eggs. Even though spoiled nephew (SN) had been to 3 Easter egg hunts already this Easter, we had to do it. So anyway, every time C found an egg, SN pouted and C gave him his egg. So basically, we stayed up late and dyed 2 dozen eggs so SN could take them all home. I take that back, he took over a dozen of them home -- C got four. You do the math. Maybe there will be rotten eggs in my MIL's backyard. ;)

I got another betta fish Friday -- a very pretty lavendar one. I got a dual tank for him and Little Jerry so they could see each other. He got sick yesterday afternoon and died last night.

And then Cassandra woke me up last night --- it must have been the second I fell asleep, ugh --- to tell me that Mark was here, and that she was going back home with him. ::sigh::

Hey, but today might be better.

My daughter Cassandra is back with us now, as of last night. The baby is due in less than two weeks. Here is what I think about Mark:

Oh yeah, and !

And !!!

My SIL inspires me to make new emoticons.

I sure wish I could say more. But I will say this -- I love her, and I don't mind if she lives with us. I just want her to be safe and happy. And she's only 17, so she should be here anyway. Even though the last few years with and without her have been really hard, I'm glad she's back, and I hope she stays for awhile.

Me-me time

Monday Thursday Madness:
1. What makes your country special? The Constitution and the freedom we have.

2. What makes your hometown special? It's not too big and not too small.

3. What makes your neighbourhood special? No one else lives in it. But seriously, our nearest neighbors are about 1/4 mile away, which means we get along with each other well when we see each other.

4. And your loved ones - what is it about them??? Unconditional love -- they see the good in me that isn't always so obvious to other people.

5. And finally you - what is it that is unique about you...??? Just about everything. Umm... I guess it would be my wide range of interests.

Tuesday Thursday Twosome:
1. What are the last two movies you saw? French Kiss and Back to the Future (I've seen them both too many times)

2. What are the last two TV shows you saw? Forensic Files and Law & Order.

3. What are the last two items you purchased? a fiddler crab and a treasure chest for my aquarium.

4. What are the last two beverages you drank? Coke and lemonade

5. What are the last two sites you surfed (before coming here)? Expressions of Love and Monday Madness.

Wednesday Thursday Weird Ones:
1. Where did you get that dress? It's a nightgown, silly.

2. If that shark vs croc show did an episode called shark vs kitty cat? Who would win? Would you watch? I hope the kitty cat would win, but it seems unlikely unless the shark was small. It would also depend on where they would fight -- land or water. No, I wouldn't watch unless my internet connection were down, and there was nothing better on.

3. When is enough enough? When the chocolate is gone.

4. Am I gonna have to turn this car around? Yes, go back for chocolate.

5. Doesn't that just take the cake? If it's chocolate cake, it's mine, so bring it back.

The MIL doily

I finally finished the doily, and actually had the inspiration to take a picture before I sent it off with Scott this morning. For me, that's amazing foresight. I'll be lucky if I remember to take my camera to the hospital when Cassandra has her baby.

Anyway, Scott fills up our water cooler jugs at my in-laws' house with their filtered well water, so I figured he could drop off her doily while he's at it.

Another Meme

[Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says] "...and you surround yourself with things that have this marvelous free-flowing energy..." -- Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui

[Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?] my water glass

[What is the last thing you watched on TV?] Forensic Files

[With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?] Scott's fan

[When did you last step outside?] A few minutes ago to try to figure out where the bass noise was coming from -- which is weird since we live out in the woods.

[Before you came to this website, what did you look at?] My site meter

[What are you wearing?] Blue shirt & matching pants with slippers (all my socks ar in the washer) :P

[Did you dream last night?] Probably

[When did you last laugh?] Recently -- at Pam's Sir Kerry pic.

[What is on the walls of the room you are in?] A whiteboard, a painting of violets that my mom painted, a portrait of Scott (by me) and a portrait of me (by my mom), an American flag, a patriotic calendar --- by Scott's desk: A Ronald Reagan calendar, a picture of the two of us, bulletin boards and a white board.

[Seen anything weird lately?] Yes.

[What do you think of this quiz?] I'm doing it, so it doesn't stink too bad.

[What is the last movie you saw?] French Kiss

[If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first?] I'd pay off our house and land.

[Tell me something about you that I don't know:] If I tell you, you'll know.

[If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?] I'm not really sure. As Spiderman's Uncle Ben said, "With great power comes great responsibility." No matter how well-intentioned we are, we could really mess things up if we had that much power. It's best to work on ourselves.

[Do you like to dance?] Not really.

[George Bush:] Is a wonderful president who is doing a very good job, especially in light of all that has happened during his presidency. He has my vote!

[Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?] My second child was a girl. I called her Cassandra. The third child was also a girl, and her name is Charity.

[Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?] My first child was a boy. His name is Jason. #'s 4 & 5 are also boys -- Ian and Christopher.

[Would you ever consider living abroad?] I wouldn't mind as long as it weren't permanent. I enjoyed living in Germany.

Medicated for your protection

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell.

...and I really like Matchbox Twenty. This has been my earworm for the last couple of weeks:

Unwell

All day staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall
All night hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something

Hold on
Feeling like I'm headed for a breakdown
And I don't know why

[Chorus]

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be...me

I'm talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know they've all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong with me
Out of all the hours thinking
Somehow I've lost my mind

[Chorus]

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be

I've been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they'll come to get me
Yeah, they're taking me away

[Chorus]

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be

Yeah, how I used to be
How I used to be
Well, I'm just a little unwell
How I used to be
How I used to be
I'm just a little unwell

Jerry & Superman

seinfed_superman.jpg
As I'm a Seinfeld fan, I really enjoyed watching The Adventures of Seinfeld and Superman this morning. It's actually an American Express commercial, but it's very entertaining. I really loved that Superman's voice is done by Patrick Warburton (David Puddy on Seinfeld). There is supposed to be at least one more episode in the future, so I'm looking forward to seeing it. Even the Today Show interview on the site was entertaining.

Nothing to say...

I guess it's time to blog again, seeing as how my side column is getting way out of hand.

I've got the serious blahs today. Can I just tell you how much I hate daylight savings time? I think I just did.

Nevermind, I didn't have anything to say. I think I'm going to go finish the doily.

April 05, 2004

Guess what?

It's after 11 pm, and it's too late to post. But I'll say a few words anyway.

I finished 9 of those groups of picots on the MIL doily, so there are only 6 left to freedom! Then I can finish the baby afgan. :P

I started trying to move my blog files today. I got partway through the MT manual, and now I'm lost. I'll be looking for help tomorrow from someone who knows something about FTP. I got CuteFTP downloaded, but I don't know what my FTP Host is, or where to find it. I did figure out how to upload my images (without FTP) Oh yeah, and a funny thing happened when I was just playing around with trying to figure out how to upload my Blogger files. I somehow managed, without the help of FTP, to upload hundreds of someone else's blog entries (no idea whose, LOL). No idea how I did that or that it was possible.

I suppose I should call it a night now instead of sitting here trying to think of stuff to write.

Finishing and Starting

As I suspected, I wasn't able to finish the doily. When I started on the outer edge, I discovered it was very complex. I spent over an hour on one part of the edge consisting of 3 pointy-thingies. There are 15 of them, and it took me about an hour to make one. I have 2 finished now. It's getting faster now that I don't have to look at the instructions as often, but it's still going to take several days to finish even if I work on it quite a bit. My MIL really loves it, though, so that is good. I just wish it were finished already.

The blog-moving process is going pretty well. It may not take me too long to move stuff. It's a little hard for me to figure out the template, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I wish I could have 3 columns, but I'm going to make it much easier on myself for now and stick with 2 columns.

Anyway, more tomorrow.

Here I am...now what?

So anyway, here I am in my new blog. It's looking a little bare. I'd like to do a lot to it right now, but I need to go finish the crocheted doily (more like a tablecloth) for my MIL's birthday tomorrow. As it is, I may have spent too much time on the computer today. I may not get it done. Oh well, at least I can go and show it to her.

She's doing a baby shower for Cassandra tomorrow. My mom is coming over to watch General Conference with us in the morning, along with Cassandra and Mark. We'll go over to my MIL's for the shower at 2 pm.

I'll try to get back on here and do something with this tomorrow night. I'm just so grateful to be here! :)

In case you didn't catch that from my last post, I'm moving my blog to Munuviana. Right now I have a new blog there! The kind folks there have offered to host me. Thank you, Pam, and all you other folks at Munuviana!

So anyway, go ahead and see my new blog if you want. It's in plain-vanilla mode now until I can figure out/ get help decorating it. I will probably be posting in both places for a little while until I get everything moved.
